Student Work

"IS THERE A SPOT IN COLLEGE SAVED FOR ME?"
My name is Aubrey Hunter and I attend George Washington Carver Middle School, in Los Angeles, California where I am in the sixth grade. Even though I am still in middle school, I have already started to plan my future as a judge. Going to college is a necessary step in achieving my career and giving back to my community. The reason why a spot should be saved for me in college is because I am a well rounded student with career goals, my talents reach beyond the classroom and I want to have an impact on my community.
Becoming a judge will allow me to make a difference by cleaning the street of gang activity and making life safer in my community as well as other communities. My best subjects in school are math and science. Although, I have a strong interest in music and entertainment, I have been playing the drums since I was three years old and I play at my church worship service on Sunday mornings. I have also played the trumpet, coronet, and bells since I was eight years old; I also dance at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Because of my talents in music, I was accepted into a program at the Colburn Performing Arts School where I learned different other types of artistic outlets such as: miming, acting and singing.
A college degree will help me to achieve my dream of becoming a television judge. I feel that being a judge on television will allow me to have justice served and show other African Americans that they can have success just like me. I feel that it is important to get a good education because from what I hear, it is very hard in the world without a college degree. If I get this scholarship, I will be able to continue my education and that would be a privilege in starting me on my way towards my goals.
I would really love to have this scholarship for I feel that I deserve it because I want a better life for myself and my family. My mother has been a single parent all my life and I think this would really make her happy to see me striving towards my goals to be successful. I'm sure she doesn’t want me to struggle like she has done. Thank you for taking the time to read my essay and hopefully you will grant me this opportunity. Is there a spot in college, saved for me?
